Research Officer (F/M/X) – Part-time Scientific Position as Teaching and Research Assistant 15 September 2024 – 14 September 2025

The Institute for EU Studies at UCLouvain Saint-Louis – Bruxelles (IEEB) is looking for a part-time teaching and research assistant to implement the EU Environmental Policies and Law (POLLEN) programme, former “Jean Monnet Module” awarded by the European Commission and now included in the EUGLOBALGREEN Jean Monnet Chair. To this end, the candidate will be hired part-time (20%) as Research Officer for one year.

The POLLEN programme is an intensive academic programme organised by the IEEB in partnership with the Research Centre in Political Science also at UCLouvain Saint-Louis – Bruxelles. POLLEN aims to foster excellence-in-teaching and research in EU studies and consists of a two-week course of 43 teaching hours (staggered hours) covering the following areas:

  • EU Environmental Law and EU in Multilateral Negotiations
  • EU Climate Change and Energy Governance
  • EU Waste Management, Chemicals and Nanotechnologies
  • Biodiversity, Agriculture, Food & Trade

The functions of the Research Officer are as follows:

Teaching (40 %):

  • Contact the speakers to finalise the POLLEN 2025 programme
  • Create, manage & develop the POLLEN online platform (Active Learning Forum). The Research Officer will be asked to actively interact with POLLEN participants regarding the compulsory readings and their summaries, the content of the lectures and conferences and the policy briefs.
  • Prepare and teach the training session on how to write a policy brief.
  • Attend the full teaching programme in order to ensure its smooth running.
  • Participate in the POLLEN jury and in the evaluation of the participants

Research (40 %):

  • Help finalise the POLLEN handbook (published with Routledge in 2025).
  • Co-organise together with the Project Officer two research seminars. This includes, among others, deciding about the topic, contacting the speakers, writing a scientific event proposal, participating to the event and writing a report.

Management & Administration (20 %):

  • Elaborate the Module evaluation form, submit it to participants and analyse the data
  • Participate in the Module steering committees.
  • Ensure, if needed, logistic supervision (catering, room booking, etc.)

In addition to her/his assigned tasks related to the Module, the capacity of the candidate to conduct a PhD research will be considered an asset.

Qualifications, expertise and competences:

  • A Master degree in Political Science, Law, European Studies, International Relations or Social Sciences, with distinction.
  • Expertise on EU Environmental Policy and Governance is an asset.
  • Fluent in English (oral/writing).
  • Knowledge of French will be considered an asset.
  • Rigor, organisation and good interpersonal skills.
